For any decades the world has watched with amazement as the TV experience has gone from a black and white tube to the cable TV revolution of the mid-1970s. With the advent of color TVs and signal coming from a cable screwed into the wall, we enjoyed the progress. Now we subscribe to the fully digital, fiber-optic internet-powered world of 2019.
Jesus commanded us to go and make disciples of all the nations
“Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age. And all the earth will be filled with His glory.” Matthew 28:19-20
Since faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Reading Romans 10:17 explains this further.
“Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.”
It’s vital that the Gospel be preached and taught to ever-widening circles of people who either do not have access to the word of God at all or who are in places where the preaching and teaching of the Bible are sparse, if not absent altogether. Christian TV channels help achieve this goal.
Some of the first Christian television shows
Christian programming used to mean a Billy Graham crusade. This crusade led to Billy Graham taking the Word to Australia where he preached to over three million people in four months. This ground-breaking tour saw a half of Australia’s population hearing him in person, on TV or radio, or through telephone hook-ups in remote communities where people gathered to listen to his sermons on loudspeakers.
There was a program starring Kathryn Kuhlman called “I Believe in Miracles”. Her impactful Christian message was way ahead of her time. Her messages were relevant for her generation with modern parables expanding on the message of Jesus Christ, our Savior.
The “Hour of Power” was started by the founding pastor of the Crystal Cathedral and minister to millions for over four decades Robert Schuller. He preached beautifully and the congregation sang uplifting hymns. On his passing, the Crystal Cathedral voted Robert’s grandson Bobby as the new Pastor to lead the program.
The modern Christian television revolution
With cable television and then the internet there has been a huge development of Christian TV channels. It is now possible to find programs to meet the needs of just about every denomination. They are broadcasted in many different languages in a wide variety of show formats. From news programs and documentaries to full-length and live talk shows there is something for everyone.
Christian TV channels make a great contribution to helping churches and ministries reach the faithful followers of Jesus like the “Hour of Power”. And since the interest in wholesome, faith-filled programming is on the rise, Christian TV channels are ready to continue influencing and informing a world hungry for a Word from God. Christian television ministries like LoveWorldTV are reaching all four corners of the globe.
